JAKE VOELKER MA, LMFTCATHOLIC THERAPIST
About Jake

Therapy shouldn’t feel formal or awkward. It should feel comfortable, genuine, and perfectly human.

I’m Jake Voelker, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the owner of JMV Therapy. I work with adults who are carrying trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, pornography and compulsive sexual behavior, low self-esteem, or experiences that leave them feeling stuck.

My style is active, conversational, practical, collaborative, warm, nonjudgmental, and down to earth. I don’t put on a stuffy clinical persona. Curiosity comes before judgment, and you do not need to have the right words or clean up your story before we begin.
Formation & practice

A path shaped by faith, people, and place.

My Catholic formation and clinical work meet in a practice that takes both the person and the problem seriously.

01

Philosophy & Catholic Studies

I attended seminary at the University of St. Thomas and earned bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy and Catholic Studies.

02

Pilgrimage & the wider world

After graduating from the minor seminary, I moved to Chicago and worked for Totally Yours Pilgrimages, helping lead pilgrimage and tour groups around the world.

03

Marriage & Family Therapy

I returned to Minnesota and earned a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.

04

Fifteen years of practice

Today, I bring 15 years of experience helping adults make sense of what hurts, what repeats, and what might become possible next.

Outside the office

A therapist, husband, dad, and Minnesotan.

My best friend and I have been married since 2012, and we have four awesome kids together. When I’m not working, I enjoy good Italian food, being outside, and the kind of gatherings that bring people together—whether it’s a day at the Minnesota State Fair, a parish Fall Festival, or simply spending time with family and friends.

For Catholic clients, shared faith can be part of the conversation—not something you have to explain or work around.

Outside the therapy room

I also make time to carve pumpkins.

Pumpkin carving is one of the creative parts of my life outside the office. Visit the pumpkin page to see more of that work.
